Working with Individuals Separating from Abusive Relationships

Welcome

Understanding Post Separation Violence & Abuse

"The most abusive part occurred after the separation."

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) affects millions of families each year. Research shows that 41% of women and 21% of men have experienced abuse related to IPV during their lifetime. Therapists working with individuals affected by IPV often struggle to recognize and appropriately treat clients after they have separated from an abusive partner.

This website provides information and resources to enhance therapists' ability to help their clients obtain safety and healing after leaving an abusive relationship. (Center for Disease Control (2022, October 11) Preventing Intimate Partner Violence. CDC.gov.)

"The will to live was a daily task, getting into therapy was likely one of the most important things I could have done."
