For over thirty years, I have worked with federal and local experts to develop legal policies and programs to protect women and children exposed to violence. As a Senior Program Specialist with the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, I administrated the first federal grant program for supervised visitation and exchange centered on servicing families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child maltreatment. In addition to increasing resources for women fleeing abusive relationships, the program also created best practices and judicial training on issues related to divorce, custody, and domestic violence. Because violence often increases after a relationship ends, my work as a clinical social worker has focused on helping families heal after abuse and trauma. My doctoral research aims to highlight the dangers of intimate partner violence after the relationship has ended and share of families that have continued to survive.
